Brentford 0 vs Luton Town 3

Luton Advanced to round three of the carling cup with the chance of a money earning day out to a big name premiership side with a routine victory over the bees as some of Luton's fringe players had a chance to impress manager Mike Newell

On a night when maybe much of the attention was placed on the bung allegations show on BBC1 which involved Mike Newell this match may be missed by many but the win will be a good confidence boost for some of the back up players at Luton and I’m sure will have given Newell a few thoughts about the starting line up for future matches.

Luton made eight changes from the side that went down to Cardiff 4-1 on Saturday, most of which came through choice. Marlon Beresford kept his place in goal while Peter Holmes was the make shift left back in the absence of a recognised left back, Barnett kept his place in the side at centre back and was joined by utility man Keith Keane in the centre, the back four was completed by Carlos Edwards who dropped back from his right wing position to fill the right back role.

The midfield showed complete change, Dean Morgan getting the start he had been asking for on the left wing while Brkovic got a rare start in the right wing, in the centre January signing David Bell got a start as did youth team product Stephen O'Leary, Up front was Adam Boyd getting only his second start since his £500,000 summer move and he was placed with Warren Feeney, a striker out to end his goal drought.

The first chance of the night however fell to the bees, Gavin Tomlin seeing his shot saved low by Beresford before Simon Cox fired a low shot against the foot of the post, this seamed to lift Luton and only a matter of minutes later Luton took the lead through Dean Morgan. David Bell sliding the ball through for Morgan to slot home from around ten yards out.

Luton doubled the lead on 52 minutes, Warren Feeney ending his goal drought with a simple tap in after good work down the right by Ahmet Brkovic. Luton then finished the night off with a late goal from sub Rowan Vine the in form striker bagging his fourth goal of the season from the centre of the area to wrap the in up.

The only down side for Luton was the dismissal of centre back Leon Barnett for a last man foul in the second half, Luton now face a serious lack of centre backs with his up coming suspension and with doubts over Chris Coyne's fitness maybe Keith Keane will get another chance to play centre back on Saturday.

Luton: Beresford, Brkovic (Foley 89), Barnett, Keane, Edwards, Bell, O'Leary, Holmes, Morgan (Langley 90), Feeney, Boyd (Vine 75).

Subs Not Used: Brill, Stevens.

attendance: 3,005
